Realicé esta pieza en Kharviv, Ucrania, en 2019, para la galería de arte Yermilov Center y la Universidad Nacional de Kharkiv. Tras un anális del material de archivo de la Biblioteca Científica Central, repensé su colección desde una perspectiva contemporánea. Aunque la película se haya convertido irremediablemente en un relato de destrucción, debido a la guerra en Ucrania, quiero resaltar que mi propósito era establecer una reflexión acerca del progreso científico y de la multiplicidad de posibles usos del conocimiento.
La Biblioteca Científica Central, donde se rodó la película, se construyó en 1804 y permanece aún en pie a pesar de la guerra.
I created this audiovisual piece in Kharkiv, Ukraine, for the art gallery Yermilov Centre and for the Kharkiv National University. I analyzed the archival material from the Central Scientific Library, in order to rethink its collection from a contemporary perspective. Although the film has inevitably become a tale of destruction due to the war in Ukraine, I want to emphasize that my intention was to reflect on scientific progress and the multiplicity of possible uses of knowledge.
The Central Scientific Library, where the film was shot, was built in 1804, and stands still despite the war.
