The city appears still, yet nature challenges that perception. The ghosts of the communities that were enslaved in the Canary Islands emerge. They express themselves in a space where life and death blur, revealing open wounds and experiences that are enduring regardless of whether society remembers them.
REVERREVER employs hybrid forms of language to construct a piece that delves into our relationship with the diverse ways of observing the past.
Curatorial Text

REVERREVER is an experimental movie that stands as a monument to the enslaved communities who lived in the Canary Islands. Although their history is vital to fully understand the current context of the Canary Islands, it has been vanished from our collective memory.
The work addresses the intersections between the collective and the personal, the repressed memory and the truth, reflecting on experiences that have existed regardless of whether society remembers them. Its structure perverts the conventional linear time of history in order to reflect on time as a magnitude that folds in on itself. The distant past and the present - and even the future - merge to question the way we communicate with the dead.
The juxtapositions of urban monuments and landscapes coexist with adapted writings of the French anthropologist Sabin Berthelot, who emigrated to the Canary Islands in the 19th century, as well as with the collaborations with diverse artists from the archipelago. The narratives of the enslaved people are written by Ivette Dalianna, Oumaima Manchit Laroussi and Daniasa M. Curbelo. They represented the three communities of enslaved people that existed, according to the classification shown by the historian Manuel Lobo Cabrera: the Guanche, the Moorish and the Black communities. The soundtrack made by Ruiloba and the 3D animation by Carlos MJ @Charlesitus complete the hybrid universe of the work.
