Plegarias para el retorno es un cortometraje experimental que parte de los registros del Tribunal de la Inquisición durante los siglos XVI y XVII para explorar rituales que usaron mujeres esclavizadas en Canarias. La pieza aborda esas prácticas como herramientas de resistencia y liberación, convirtiendo el archivo judicial - diseñado originalmente como forma de castigo - en un repositorio de memoria insurgente. Lejos de fijar a estas mujeres simplemente en el pasado y como víctimas inherentemente pasivas, la película las activa como presencias vivas, capaces de abrirnos a nuevas vías para afrontar los desafíos contemporáneos.
Plegarias para el retorno -Pleas for the Return- is an audiovisual work that draws on the records of the Inquisition Tribunal from the 16th and 17th centuries to explore rituals practiced among enslaved women in the Canary Islands. The piece approaches these practices as tools of resistance and liberation, turning a judicial archive - originally designed as a form of punishment - into a repository of insurgent memory. Rather than fixing these women solely in the past as inherently passive victims, the film activates them as living presences, capable of opening up new paths for confronting contemporary challenges.
