Migrar a una isla efímera retrata la vida rural de la Canarias del siglo XX, a partir de los relatos heredados de las abuelas del artista, que vertebran la pieza.
La isla que da título a la obra no es un territorio fijo. Se trata de un lugar fugaz y elusivo que aparece y desaparece, tan cercano como inalcanzable, y que sin embargo persiste en la conciencia colectiva como una posibilidad de huida hacia un espacio que nunca está lejos de casa. Las narrativas orales y las creencias populares se tratan aquí como una parte indivisible de la realidad de la época, como una versión idealizada del archipiélago, pero no por ello menos dura. Este aspecto se traduce formalmente en la incorporación de elementos digitales sobre vídeos de archivo pertenecientes a distintas décadas del siglo pasado, entremezclando en un mismo plano lo documentado con lo romantizado. De esta manera, se reflexiona acerca de los modos de construcción de la memoria colectiva. El material utilizado se toma de la Filmoteca Canaria y del CCA Gran Canaria, Centro de Cultura Audiovisual, en el marco del proyecto Mestura.
Migrar a una isla efímera -To Migrate to an Ephemeral Island- portrays rural life in the 20th-century Canary Islands, drawn from stories inherited from the artist's grandmothers, whose narratives form the foundation of the film.
The island that gives the work its title is not a fixed territory. It is a fleeting, elusive place that appears and disappears, at once near and unreachable, yet persists in collective consciousness as the possibility of an escape toward a space that is never far from home. Oral narratives and popular beliefs are treated here as an indivisible part of the reality of that time, as an idealized, yet no less harsh, version of the archipelago. This is translated formally through the incorporation of digital elements into archival footage from different decades of the past century, blending the documented and the romanticized within a single plane. Through this approach, the piece reflects on the ways collective memory is constructed. The material used is drawn from the Filmoteca Canaria and CCA Gran Canaria, Centro de Cultura Audiovisual, and was made as part of the Mestura project.
